A charity drive is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The single showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
