Israelis have gathered across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed state memorials until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to review the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the talks revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The official stated the day's discussions finished without significant progress, due to disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are working hard to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Critical Issues in Talks

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future management of the region

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, young Hagar - whose brother survived the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "No location appears as home now and until each abducted person come back none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states 48 continue in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.

Activist Atalia Regev remarked: "We need do any agreement needed for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around 70% of the population prefer the hostilities to finish in return for the release of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the music event, mourners assembled to remember the victims.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, attacks were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side area of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk falls, the dread appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are resting together, clinging, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we check the news to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had accepted the remains of several people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of that area said another two fatalities had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the south region, medics stated.

The territory's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
