Mikel Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Team and Confirms Kai Havertz Setback.

Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his squad can continue to cope with player absences following revealing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been out for months following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when increasing his training and could not progress “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Persist

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Therefore, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has placed the club in a far better place to handle such absences.

When asked if a larger pool of players was benefiting their title quest, his response was positive. “Absolutely, since the current term has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the highest level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Addressing the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”
