The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
