Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
