Winter Storms Claim Five Victims in the Gaza Strip Amidst Desperate Conditions in Makeshift Shelters.

Powerful winter winds caused walls to collapse upon fragile tents sheltering Palestinians uprooted by conflict in Gaza, killing no fewer than 4 people. These deaths highlights the perilous situation that continue after more than 24 months of devastating bombardment and critical lack of aid.

Ceasefire Offers Little Relief from Harsh Elements

Although a truce has been active since last fall, humanitarian organizations state that residents do not have the sufficient housing required to survive frequent winter storms.

Medical staff at Shifa hospital, which received the bodies, said on this week that the dead were two women, a young female, and a man.

In a separate incident, the Gaza health ministry announced on Tuesday that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of hypothermia during the night.

"International actors has enabled us to witness death in all its forms," stated Bassel Hamouda after the burial. "While it is correct the bombing may have temporarily stopped, but we have witnessed every conceivable cause of death in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Relatives Buried in Shelter Collapse

According to Shifa hospital, 3 people of a one household — elderly Mohamed Hamouda, his 15-year-old relative, and his son's wife — were fatally injured when an eight-metre high wall fell on top of their tent in a coastal area of Gaza City. At least five others were hurt in the event.

Their relatives on Tuesday began clearing the rubble that had entombed their loved ones and reconstructing the temporary homes for survivors.

Aid Efforts and Continuing Crisis

The UN and its aid organization allies were distributing tents, tarps, warm covers and clothing as well as nutrition and hygiene items across Gaza, stated the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs.

Most of the population reside in makeshift shelters since their homes were turned into rubble during the hostilities. Humanitarian organizations contend not enough building supplies are entering Gaza under the truce.

Another Winter of Struggle

Gaza’s population of over two million people has been fighting to keep the cold weather and bad weather at bay while enduring lack of assistance and a absence of more substantial temporary housing, which is badly needed throughout the colder season.
